Gyan Jyoty Rural Development welfare Trust works for the empowerment of society. The trust focuses on bettering the lives of orphans, widows and under-privileged citizens. We believe in equality, justice and better futures for all. The generous support of our donors enables us to assist the deprived. We initiated the following programs to help the needy.
Feeding Program
Through our feeding program, we provide cooked meals and groceries to the poor and needy. About 80 widows are supported with groceries every month. Soon after the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020, 20,000 people were fed, and 16,000 grocery kits were provided to families.
Providing Affordable and Clean Water to Rural Communities
Gyan Jyoty Rural Development welfare Trust installs and rehabilitates community water systems and handpumps. Many water points in India are broken due to poor maintenance, and we have addressed this issue by training water user committees and developing a network of mobile mechanics known as Jalabandhus (Friends of Water). To further promote sustainability, we work with local water and sanitation committees that oversee the operation and maintenance of their local systems.
The project began with mapping of villages in dire need of a water filtration system. During the initial analysis it was found that many villagers had subscribed to monthly water tankers to meet their needs. The water supply in their village was either non-functional or contaminated.
The ones who could not afford to pay private tankers, survive on the contaminated water. However, they face multiple health issues and constantly raise complaints about the water supply.
